Senior Software Engineer

Summary

Join Airbnb's Internationalization Infrastructure team and build intuitive workflows and tools to support millions of users globally. As an engineer, you will enable scalable internationalization infrastructure, work cross-functionally with various teams, and build systems supporting high-scale real-time translation requests. You will contribute to Airbnb's multilingual capabilities and learn industry best practices. The ideal candidate possesses 5-9+ years of experience in backend development, expertise in various programming languages, and a passion for globalization and user experience. Requirements

• 5-9+ years of industry experience with a BS/Masters preferably in CS, or equivalent experience
• Strong programming skills for hands-on IC work, particularly in back-end server languages (Java, Kotlin, C++ or equivalent)
• Experience with building, maintaining and optimizing large-scale backend systems, APIs, and databases within a large-scale service-oriented architecture
• Exposure to architectural patterns of high-scale web applications, such as well-designed APIs, data pipelines, and efficient algorithms
• Experience in HTML, CSS, JavaScript / Typescript, and modern JavaScript libraries and tooling (e.g. React and GraphQL)
• Experience or desire to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams with design, product and data science partners
• Passionate about globalization, user experience, efficiency, availability, and system quality

Responsibilities

• Build intuitive workflows and tools to serve the needs of our stakeholders, business partners, and end users
• Enable the internationalization infrastructure to scale cost efficiently
• Work cross-functionally with partners in Globalization, Data Science, user facing product teams, vertical platform teams, and external vendors
• Build scalable systems supporting high scale real-time translation requests and efficient and cost-effective retrieval of translated content
• Be part of an impactful infrastructure team while contributing to and learning industry best practices on internationalization
