Senior Software Engineer

Summary

Join Canva's Cloud FinOps team and help redefine how the world experiences design. Based in Sydney with options for remote work in other Australian locations, this role focuses on feature development, product development, cost optimization in cloud architecture, and data platform maintenance. You will champion FinOps culture, working with engineering teams to improve cloud architecture and cost efficiency. The ideal candidate possesses strong Golang or Python skills, deep computer engineering knowledge, AWS experience, and proficiency in Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC). Requirements

• Proficiency in Golang or Python; comfort coding in Golang or Python, but willingness to upskill in either
• Deep knowledge and understanding of Computer Engineering fundamentals and first principles
• Strong knowledge of AWS services such as EKS, EC2, Lambda, DynamoDB, RDS, S3, or equivalent Cloud provider experience
• Experience designing, implementing, and managing scalable, secure, and cost-effective cloud architectures
• Proficiency with infrastructure-as-code (experience with Terraform preferred, but strong experience with other IaC tools acceptable)
• Experience owning, tracking, and delivering goals, working both independently and in teams
• Ability to guide and mentor other team members and improve the way the team collaborates, learns, and shares ideas
• Curiosity and enjoyment of discovering new areas and understanding areas outside of expertise; solving opportunities and problem spaces with technical ideas and solutions
• Excitement about designing solutions at scale, pragmatically planning what delivers the most value with low cost; working with many different collaborators, each with their own problems; tying the short-term steps that open the long-term goals

Responsibilities

• Develop new features, functionality, and optimizations
• Design, build, and autonomously lead discussions around team products
• Support answering questions from product teams and company leaders
• Work with Canva’s engineering teams to improve their cloud architecture from a cost optimization perspective
• Get hands-on with the FinOps data platform, tuning it and keeping it running smoothly
• Champion the FinOps culture at Canva
• Spread the word and empower others to join in
