Senior Software Engineer

Summary

Join Fastly's Compute Platform team as a Senior Software Engineer and help scale our hosting infrastructure. You will write platform-level code in Rust, collaborate with other teams, design APIs, analyze performance issues, and be responsible for a large-scale production system. This role involves cross-team collaboration and contributions to open-source projects. The ideal candidate has at least 5 years of backend software development experience, including 3 years in high-reliability systems programming (ideally in Rust). Requirements

• You have at least 5 years of backend software development experience, with at least 3 of those in high-reliability systems programming, ideally in Rust, alternately in C/C++ and some knowledge of functional programming
• You have a minimum of 2 years of experience with distributed or cloud systems
• Comfortable writing asynchronous, concurrent code

Responsibilities

• Write platform-level code in Rust that handles host concerns like back pressure, resource limits, and interactions with other services
• Collaborate with other teams at Fastly on interfaces to Compute services
• Design and implement both low- and high-level APIs for interacting with edge services
• Analyze and address performance and stability issues to meet high scale requirements
• Be responsible for a large scale production system with extremely high performance and availability requirements
• Contribute to the Rust and WebAssembly open source ecosystems

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Rust or other systems languages
• Experience with API design
• Understanding of security concerns in multi-tenant systems
• Experience with multiprocess scheduling and memory management
• Experience with systems-level optimization
• Experience with and interest in technical writing
• History of open source contribution
