
Senior Software Engineer

Summary
Join one of MongoDB's Clusters and Integrations teams and contribute to building the core infrastructure of a world-class distributed database. You will work on challenging problems related to networking, observability, workload management, and data movement, focusing on enhancing MongoDB's availability. The role is remote in the United States and requires 5+ years of experience in building distributed systems. You'll need experience with production-level code in languages like C, C++, or Rust, a Computer Science degree or equivalent, and a passion for large-scale distributed systems. Success will be measured by contributions to MongoDB's development, code reviews, leading feature development, and mentoring junior engineers. Requirements
- 5+ years of experience building distributed systems
- Experience with building production-level code with a large user base, robust design structure and rigorous code quality, written in C, C++, Rust, or another systems programming language
- Degree in Computer Science or similar field, or equivalent practical experience, with strong competencies in data structures, algorithms, and software design/architecture
- Understands modern computer architecture and internals to the degree that they can reason about how specific design choices plays out in a system like MongoDB
Responsibilities
- Understand the high-level architecture of MongoDB
- Dive into the details of your teamβs components
- Resolve a few bugs
- Contribute to the development of a project slated for the next release of MongoDB
- Take on code review responsibilities
- Participate in design reviews for new features
- Lead the development of a new feature
- Help mentor new engineers on the team
Preferred Qualifications
- Passion for the theory and practice of system design for large-scale distributed systems, as well as hands-on or academic experience in the domain
- Has demonstrated industry success or academic research in areas such as: High performance / low latency networking
- Has demonstrated industry success or academic research in areas such as: Performance tuning
- Has demonstrated industry success or academic research in areas such as: Distributed systems
- Has demonstrated industry success or academic research in areas such as: System observability
- Has demonstrated industry success or academic research in areas such as: System resiliency
