Senior Software Engineer

Summary

Join Pismo, a Visa company, as a Senior Consultant Engineer! Your primary focus will be ensuring all implementations follow best practices for scalability and integrity. You will ensure systems scale indefinitely, adhere to engineering guidelines, assist other engineers, identify system flaws, participate in cross-squad implementations, and lead architectural designs. This remote position requires significant experience in backend languages and cloud technologies. You will also need to demonstrate product awareness and proactively contribute to engineering strategy. The role involves some travel.

Requirements

8 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor Degree or at least 5 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 2 years of work experience with a PhD

Responsibilities

• Ensure that the systems in which the employee participates or develops can scale indefinitely and it doesn’t have any integrity problems
• Ensure that the staff engineering guidelines and standards is being applied to the current systems
• Help others software engineers in any implementation
• Identify possible flaws that are present in the current system that were not yet discovered by the teams
• Often Participate in implementations that are cross squads
• Leads architectural system designs on the most complex systems
• Can understand the context of multiple different work streams, and offer effective technical advice and support for those workstreams while still maintaining excellent velocity
• Demonstrates high product awareness for areas of the business they are working with. Understands the importance of product-market fit and works closely with product leadership to ensure we’re making the right decisions across one or more squads
• Regularly challenges their team or area to have a greater sense of urgency for company priorities. Steps up to lead when required
• Able to proactively propose strategy for engineering within their Collective/Discipline, and knows how to effectively get buy in and move this forward

Preferred Qualifications

• 9 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor Degree or 7 or more relevant years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 3 or more years of experience with a PhD
• Experience with Backend Languages
• Cloud, Event-driven, Distributed race condition, Distributed Transactions
• Desirable experience with observability/metrics, Openapi, Load Testing, Terraform, Devops, Financial Experience
