Senior Software Engineer

Summary

Join Xentral's PIM team as a Senior Software Engineer and drive the evolution of their Product Information Management system. You will play a critical role in scaling and improving a core part of their platform, tackling the challenges of evolving a mature, monolithic system. Responsibilities include designing, implementing, and maintaining backend solutions using PHP (Laravel), refactoring legacy code, driving architectural improvements, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and promoting engineering excellence. The ideal candidate possesses 5+ years of backend engineering experience, strong PHP knowledge (Laravel), experience with legacy systems and monolithic architectures, and excellent communication skills. Requirements

• You bring 5+ years of experience as a backend engineer, ideally working with mature systems and large codebases
• You have strong knowledge of PHP , ideally with modern frameworks like Laravel ; exposure to Golang is a plus
• You are experienced in working with and refactoring legacy systems , especially within monolithic architectures
• You are skilled in decoupling monoliths and improving functionality for better performance and scalability
• You are passionate about building systems that evolve gracefully and sustainably over time
• You are a strong communicator and thrive in cross-functional collaboration
• You uphold high standards for code quality, performance, and maintainability
• You speak fluent English; German is a plus

Responsibilities

• You design, implement, and maintain robust backend solutions for our Product Information Management (PIM) system using PHP (Laravel), with exposure to Golang as a plus
• You lead efforts to refactor, decouple, and modernize legacy code—turning a growing project into a scalable service
• You drive architectural improvements and technical strategy to improve maintainability, functionality, and performance
• You collaborate closely with product managers and engineers across teams to deliver high-impact features and technical enhancements
• You proactively identify and implement improvements that go beyond maintaining the status quo—making systems better, faster, and more scalable
• You support scaling efforts and ensure that the growing demands on the PIM system are met with sustainable engineering practices
• You promote engineering excellence through code reviews, shared standards, and mentorship
