Senior Software Engineer (Backend)

Summary

Join dbt Labs as a Senior Backend Engineer and contribute to building and maintaining scalable, reliable, and secure services for our growing platform. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement foundational services, enhancing product performance and enterprise readiness. This role involves developing APIs, system architectures, and working with technologies like Python, Go, React, Postgres, Kubernetes, AWS, Terraform, and Datadog. You will also mentor junior engineers and contribute to engineering best practices. Requirements

• 5+ years of experience as a software engineer, with a strong background in backend development
• Proficiency in designing API-driven applications using REST and/or gRPC
• Experience building scalable and secure distributed systems
• A systematic problem-solving approach, strong communication skills, and a sense of ownership
• Ability to balance technical depth with fast, iterative delivery

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain backend services that scale with our growing customer base
• Develop APIs and system architectures that support high availability and performance
• Work with cross-functional teams, including Product, UX, and Security, to deliver impactful solutions
• Contribute to engineering best practices, mentor junior engineers, and participate in design and code reviews
• Debug production issues and optimize system performance using observability tools

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in a remote, distributed team environment
• Hands-on experience with observability tools like Datadog
• Have experience with distributed systems, database modeling, caching layers and/or DB performance
