Senior Software Engineer - Core Infrastructure

Join Canva's Cloud FinOps team and help redefine how the world experiences design. Based in Sydney with options for working in Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, or Adelaide, this role focuses on building impactful features, driving product development, architecting for efficiency, scaling the FinOps platform, and championing FinOps culture. You will design and develop functionality for cloud cost insights, lead discussions, scope solutions, partner with engineering teams, and inspire others to adopt FinOps thinking. The ideal candidate possesses strong Golang or Python coding skills, a deep understanding of cloud technologies (especially AWS), experience with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform), and a passion for automation and cost optimization. Requirements

• You code in Golang or Python: You’re confident with one and keen to upskill in the other
• You bring engineering depth: Strong foundational knowledge of computer engineering principles underpins how you solve problems
• You know cloud inside-out: Especially AWS - you’ve worked with services like EKS, EC2, Lambda, DynamoDB, RDS, and S3 (or similar from another provider)
• You design with purpose: Your cloud architecture experience is scalable, secure, and cost-conscious
• You automate everything: You’re fluent in infrastructure-as-code (we use Terraform, but we welcome experience with others)
• You own your goals: Whether working solo or with a team, you take ownership, track progress, and deliver outcomes
• You lift others up: You mentor, guide, and improve collaboration across the team
• You’re curious and collaborative: You love diving into unfamiliar territory, solving challenges creatively, and connecting short-term actions to long-term goals

Responsibilities

• Building impactful features: You’ll design and develop functionality that brings cloud cost insights closer to Canva’s teams, including automated cost anomaly detection at scale
• Driving product development: From idea to implementation, you’ll lead discussions, scope solutions, and support product teams and Canva leaders with real-time answers to cost-related questions
• Architecting for efficiency: Partner with engineering teams to improve their cloud architecture with cost optimisation front of mind
• Scaling our FinOps platform: Dive into our internal FinOps data platform, fine-tune performance, ensure uptime, and explore new ways to scale
• Championing FinOps culture: You’ll lead by example, inspiring others across Canva to adopt FinOps thinking and empowering teams to make cost-informed decisions
