Senior Staff Software Engineer

Requirements

• Deep expertise in building maintainable systems at scale
• Experience providing technical leadership, including influencing architecture and design decisions for complex applications
• A track record of delivering high-quality software in collaboration with cross-functional teams
• Expertise in applying engineering best practices, such as code quality, testing strategies, and performance optimization
• Proven ability to mentor engineers and foster technical growth within a team
• Effective communication skills, with the ability to share knowledge and align teams on technical goals

Responsibilities

• Identify and solve high-impact problems involving a level of technical and/or organization complexity that requires understanding and coordination across multiple domains
• Consistently show up as an organizational leader, within the Gusto Pro group and beyond
• Work with engineers and leaders across team and organizational boundaries to elevate Gusto’s engineering quality and velocity
• Inform and maintain best practices for reliability and observability for the Gusto Pro group
• Communicate and negotiate the organizational investment for the creation or expansion of the Gusto Pro group’s systems and services
• Lead engineering-wide improvements to core data models and other foundational architecture

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in SaaS, fintech, or similar industries

Benefits

• Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $191,000/yr to $237,000/yr in Denver & most remote locations, and $225,000/yr to $279,000/yr for San Francisco, Seattle, & New York
• Stock equity is additional
• Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees who are based in those locations will be expected to work from the office on designated days approximately 2-3 days per week (or more depending on role)
• When approved to work from a location other than a Gusto office, a secure, reliable, and consistent internet connection is required
