Summary
Join Rondo Energy as an experienced Engineer, Metal Structures to contribute to the design and development of metal assemblies within Rondo Heat Batteries. You will lead the design process, execute structural designs, perform finite-element modeling, and develop detailed design documentation. Collaboration with internal and external stakeholders is crucial, as is support for prototyping and testing. This role is instrumental in driving the success of Rondo's Heat Batteries and their mission to decarbonize the world. Requirements
- Bachelorβs degree in civil or mechanical engineering with a specialization in structures
- 5+ years of experience designing metal structural systems, within the context of cold-formed steel structures in industrial settings β enclosures, ductwork, louvers, and their support structures
- Strong working knowledge of applicable structural codes and standards, particularly AISI (American Iron and Steel Institute) and AISC (American Institute of Steel Construction) specifications
- Excellent communication skills; comfortable gathering, synthesizing, and disseminating program information among internal and external technical and non-technical parties
- Flexibility, openness, and creative problem-solving

Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of metal assemblies in Rondo Heat Battery. Assemblies include enclosures, insulation wall systems or various assemblies of air management system such as louvers, ducts, plenums, pipes, etc
- Execute structural designs including load calculations, safety margins, and code validation. Where code-based design is insufficient or not directly applicable, develop rigorous, well-documented design methodologies and testing/validation plans to ensure the safety and reliability of the final design solutions
- Perform finite-element modeling and utilize other analytical methods to verify structural performance
- Develop detailed design documentation, including drawings, sketches, calculation reports, and fabrication-ready CAD models
- Support developing design requirements and specifications
- Support design and construction coordination with internal and external stakeholders such as fabrication partners, EPCs, contractors, and design-assist partners
- Support prototyping and/or testing required to achieve robust and cost-effective solutions for our core technology, as well as for tooling and other equipment that supports manufacturing
- Operate in an inclusive, collaborative, and iterative design team, contributing to fostering an open engineering culture
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with modular, high-precision, high-volume steel framing and manufacturing processes, such as roll-formed or pressed sheet metal
- Experience in purpose-built, outdoor-rated metal enclosures
- Experience with interface designs between metal structures and concrete or refractory assemblies
- Experience with GD&T and tolerance analysis
- Experience working in a start-up environment
