Senior VFX Artist

Summary

Join That's No Moon, an independent game studio, as a Senior VFX Artist for a project-based role. You will produce photorealistic real-time visual effects for AAA games and cinematics using Unreal Engine and Houdini. Collaborate with other teams to meet artistic and gameplay requirements. Research new workflows and contribute to documentation. Ensure VFX content is performant and within budget. Plan and estimate VFX tasks, breaking down deliverables and sharing updates. This is a temporary position with eligibility for various benefits.

Requirements

• Experience creating realistic and compelling VFX for Games, Film/TV, or both
• Understanding of in-game VFX performance, tuning and memory budgets
• Knowledge of Unreal Engine, Niagra and Blueprint
• Understanding of modeling, shading, and animation workflows
• Strong understanding of PBR concepts, strong understanding of physics
• Portfolio of real-time FX work, preferably in photorealistic style
• 3+ years of experience in VFX for games, visual effects, film, etc
• Self-motivated and able to work well in a multi-discipline team environment
• Strong artistic eye for volume, energy, weight, density, timing, and other dynamic aesthetics

Responsibilities

• Produce photorealistic real-time visual effects, including explosions, fire, weapon FX, smoke, clouds, and debris using Unreal Engine and tools such as Houdini
• Collaborate with Environment, Lighting, Animation and Design to support both artistic and gameplay requirements for VFX across gameplay and cinematics
• Help research new workflows and proactively contribute to documentation
• Ensure VFX content is performant and within budget
• Work with Leads and Production to estimate and plan VFX tasks for upcoming milestones, breakdown deliverables, and share updates

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Houdini, 3ds Max, Maya, etc
• Experience with Python scripting
• Experience working in film/TV
