Software Engineer III

Summary
Join ExtraHop's team as a Software Engineer III and contribute to the development of core platform support for appliances and custom software that provides security visibility across organizations. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define requirements, develop architecture, and implement new features. Maintain code quality through code reviews and participate in agile development methodologies. This role requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, 4+ years of backend infrastructure implementation experience on Linux/Unix, and proficiency in backend languages like Python, Golang, Rust, or C/C++. The ideal candidate will also possess strong problem-solving and communication skills and the ability to lead or mentor team members. Requirements
- Bachelorβs degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field
- 4+ years working experience implementing backend infrastructure components on Linux/Unix
- Experience in back-end languages such as Python, Golang, Rust, or C/C++
- Familiarity with cryptography principles, applications, and protocols such as TLS
- Familiarity with navigating typical Linux server environments, including common tools, package management, and services
- Familiarity with basic CPU, network, or storage performance analysis and tuning on Linux
- Ability to lead or mentor other team members
- Adherence to strong software engineering practices
- Strong problem solving and communication skills
Responsibilities
- Be a part of a team that designs and builds the underlying platform support for appliances and the custom software that provides security visibility across an organization
- Occasionally expand into other areas of engineering β we encourage and support full-stack flexibility
- Collaborate with UX, PM, QA, and other engineering teams to define requirements, develop architecture, and implement new features
- Maintain quality by participating in code reviews
- Participate in agile development methodologies
- Demonstrate traits in line with our company values (have a sense of humor, be nice to each other, think about customers first, build cool stuff)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP
- Experience with Docker containers, CI pipelines, and other build tools
- Experience with learning new network technologies, such as when adopting and configuring existing servers and client libraries to support new features
- Basic experience using and/or administering an RDBMS such as PostgreSQL or MySQL
- Exposure to authentication/authorization technologies such as SAML, OAuth, OIDC, Kerberos, or LDAP/Active Directory
- Familiarity with developing, maintaining, or customizing a Linux/Unix-based OS for cloud, server, or embedded use cases
- Exposure to security certifications such as FIPS 140, FedRAMP, Common Criteria, SOC2, PCI DSS, or HIPAA
