Software Engineer, Machine Learning

Summary

Join Hungryroot's Data Science team as a Software Engineer and contribute to our core Machine Learning/Operations Research systems. You will collaborate with data scientists and operations researchers to build, deploy, and maintain backend systems powering personalized recommendations. Design, optimize, and scale backend services, APIs, and data pipelines supporting machine learning model deployment. This role reports to the Senior Machine Learning Specialist and offers the opportunity to impact how people shop for and eat healthy food. Work remotely or from our NYC office. Requirements

• 3+ years of experience in a backend engineering role
• Strong programming skills in languages such as Python and C++
• Knowledge in backend system design and strong skills in implementation
• Working experience with databases/data pipeline tools
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to translate business problems into practical solutions

Responsibilities

• Design and build scalable and efficient backend systems
• Deploy and maintain ML models in production
• Ensure system reliability and performance
• Collaborate cross-functionally on product feature development
• Contribute to code quality and maintain best practices

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with OR / ML tools (like Gurobi and Spark)
• Has worked with data scientists/OR engineers in the past
• Experience with Databricks or AWS
