Software Engineer-Control Plane

Summary

Join Tailscale, a growing, fully remote company building the new internet, as a full-time Software Engineer. You will contribute to the development of the Tailscale product, working on both the coordination server and open-source client code. This role involves the entire product lifecycle, from coding to strategic decision-making, and collaboration with UX/UI designers and product managers. We seek a highly motivated individual capable of independent work, asynchronous collaboration, and quick thinking. Requirements

• Experience with distributed systems
• Experience with one or more SQL databases
• Ability to give and process constructive feedback, as well as work independently
• Flexibility to adjust to the dynamic nature of a startup
• Ability to join an on call rotation, after becoming familiar with the platform
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Responsibilities

• Work as part of a team of engineers to design, build, test, and document core software components
• Develop and optimize product features spanning across our coordination server backend, and open source client code
• Exhibit ownership over the running services that comprise Tailscale’s product by building for observability, participating in incident response, and fielding customer support escalations
• Analyze and improve the efficiency, scalability, and stability of systems and resources
• Bring a security-first mindset to both design and implementation

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Go
• Familiarity with networks (IP addressing, routing, etc.)
