Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or similar engineering major
• 4+ years of experience in a technical leadership role (e.g. Lead Engineer/Developer or Team Lead)
• 5+ years of experience as a Software Engineer
• Experience engineering in linux and/or MacOS environments
• Experience engineering with an SQL-based relational database system
• Experience engineering a SaaS product/platform
• Experience engineering a cloud-based architecture
• Experience engineering with containers
• Experience engineering with design patterns
• Experience engineering with a CI pipeline
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Experience working as a member of a highly-collaborative engineering team
• US citizenship or authorization to work in the US

Responsibilities

• Coordinate the engineering team’s day-to-day activities so that implementation commitments are delivered on or ahead of schedule
• Collaborate with Consultants, Solutions Architects, Business Analysts, and UX Designers to ensure the engineering team delivers what clients need and want
• Review technical architecture documentation for the project and ensure that the engineering team’s deliverables are implemented accordingly
• Identify and convey technical considerations, risks, and trade-offs
• Contribute to the engineering team’s implementation efforts
• Ensure that the code you deliver has an extremely high level of quality and an extremely low potential for defects that will surface in the production environments
• Author documentation of your code that is useful for your team members and other members of Engineering
• Dive into code with engineers as technical challenges arise
• Develop proofs of concepts as needed
• Train internal resources on technical topics
• Mentor engineers in best practices, technical knowledge, and collaboration
• Act as the scrum master for the engineering team

Preferred Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience as a full-stack engineer
• Insurance industry experience, preferably in distribution
• Master of Science degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or similar engineering major
• Experience engineering with Java
• Experience engineering with React
• Experience engineering with Typescript
• Experience with multiple languages, frameworks, databases, services, and tools
• Experience engineering with TDD
• Experience engineering with Scala and Play
• Experience engineering with message/event queues
• Experience with agile/scrum process methodology
• Experience communicating directly with clients
• Active participation in widely-used open source projects
