Summary

The job is for a SQL Database Administrator to support the Department of Veterans Affairs’ Office of Information & Technology (OI&T), Electronic Health Record Modernization Integration Office (EHRM-IO) and Data Analytic (DA) project. The candidate should have experience in database design, coding, testing, debugging, and documentation with a minimum of 5+ years of relevant work experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or any equivalent discipline is required
  • A minimum of 5+ years of relevant work experience required
  • Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR), VA’s Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VistA), and/or Oracle Health Millennium
  • Support & Implement SQL Server Analysis, SQL Clustered Column store Index (CCI) technology
  • Generate/produce queries and reports with SQL Management Studio, SQL server tools, - SSAS, SSIS, SSRS, SSMA and Sentry Diagnostic Utilities
  • Experience with PostgresSQL DDL and DML scripts
  • Python scripting to extract data from JSON endpoint into PostgresSQL DB
  • SSIS ETL project to pull data from SSAS Cube and SQL Server and load into PostgresSQL DB
  • Experience with MS Azure and AWS

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and maintain the database environment; sustain capacity and performance requirements, optimize and tune databases for maximum efficiency, keep systems and platforms functioning at 99.9% availability, ensure data integrity through daily, weekly, and monthly checklists for monitoring of logs, database growth, audit reports, and backup and recovery processes
  • Maintain and update the database architecture, perform database-related duties such as building schemas, tables, stored procedures, and applying permissions; provide recommendations on policies and procedures, maintain database utilities, and provide reports and scripts for task automation
  • Monitor systems and platforms for availability; oversee database mirroring, database replication and failover, and provide technical recommendations on emerging technologies and trends in the commercial market
  • Participate in technical working groups diagnosing issues, strategizing for future requirements and propose enhancements to increase efficiency
  • Create, populate, and maintain databases and data cubes for a variety of analysis and reporting projects
  • Review, enhance, and combine existing data models
  • Create database and file structures to include definitions of file characteristics, file layouts, data dictionary entries, file indices for each subsystem
  • Restore DB from backup and support DR activities
  • Create data as datasets, database schema or views to databases for projects/studies; current and accurate data models and metadata; and data for application development
  • Communicate effectively both orally and written with customers, stakeholders, and technical specialists. Effectively lead detailed technical discussions and develop and present required briefing materials to ensure the customer’s needs are met

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with VA Health Portfolio and Informatics Product Line is a plus
  • Experience in Data Integration Modernizations and Secure Messaging is a plus
  • Demonstrates attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to obtain a government clearance
