Summary
Join ClassDojo's Data Science and Analytics team as a Staff Analytics Engineer. This pivotal role involves making data accessible and actionable, driving informed decision-making. You will partner with multiple product teams, leading through data vision and architecture. The ideal candidate has 7+ years of experience in data/analytics engineering and a passion for education. You'll be responsible for large-scale data projects, data modeling, SQL expertise, data governance, and ETL processes. The position offers opportunities for mentorship and continuous learning in a fast-paced environment focused on improving education.
Requirements
7+ years experience with data / analytics engineering
Responsibilities
- Make data accessible and actionable, facilitating informed decision-making throughout the company
- Partner and lead across multiple product team functions and domains and drive impact through your data vision and architecture
- Own large-scale data projects that drove significant impact across the company
- Partner effectively with engineering, data analysts, data scientists, and other business stakeholders
- Dive deep into understanding the product itself, team roadmaps, technical architecture, and data flow from logging to warehouse. Ask questions and unblock yourself in truly owning your project scope
- Mentor other data-savvy stakeholders (Data Science, PM, Eng) on data best practices
- Live and breathe schema design (whether it's Snowflake, Star, or Data Vault 2.0) and share your ideas in thoughtful design reviews
- Create clean fact, dimension, aggregate, cube tables and get excited about tracking their downstream usage and feedback
- Lead the design, implementation, and monitoring of large scale data warehouses and data marts that enable clear product-focused insights
- Be an expert at SQL and be very comfortable writing window functions, STRUCT/ARRAY manipulation, and query optimization
- Adhere to and promote performance best practices for your tables depending on the database engine (partitions, sort keys, dist keys, clustering, incremental modeling)
- Have a passion for data cataloging and metadata management tools to document data assets and ensure data lineage
- Live by data governance principles, including data classification, data ownership, and data stewardship
- Design systems with a test-driven approach in mind to trap bad quality data or highlight alerts as part of your data flow
- Utilize familiarity with ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes and tools to prepare and clean data for analysis
- Use skills in tools like dbt to build data transformation pipelines
Preferred Qualifications
- Love working with SQL frameworks like dbt to cleanly abstract model code from implementation
- Be an Airflow expert and find digging into DAG failures and optimizing task run times exciting
- Be passionate about data governance and how to apply principles like least-privilege access, retention policies, and data minimization at scale
- Be a continuous learner. Stay current in the latest trends and technologies in data analytics and educational technology
Benefits
- Salary ranges (United States): CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT states: $190,000 - $250,000 (USD) All other states in the US: $161,500 - $212,500 (USD)
