Summary

Join Supermetrics as a Staff Cloud Native Architect in Helsinki HQ or remotely in Finland. As a key technical leader, you will guide cloud-related matters, serve as a liaison between the Internal Platform and users, and shape the technical strategy using your Kubernetes, cloud architecture, and software development expertise. You will ensure platform robustness, reliability, and security, focusing on complex distributed systems challenges. This role involves acting as a subject matter expert for the cloud-native platform, guiding the shift to Kubernetes-based services, and building scalable, multi-cloud infrastructure. You will also improve system performance observation, advise on database management, evolve IaC and CI/CD practices, and research new technologies. Collaboration with internal and external teams on company-wide projects is also expected.

Requirements

  • Experience in effectively designing and operating large-scale cloud environments in a platform, SRE, or architecture team
  • Deep experience architecting complex, distributed systems, thinking in patterns and long-term strategy
  • Guided teams through breaking down monolithic apps and moving them to Kubernetes
  • Advanced knowledge of Kubernetes, including networking and security across clouds
  • Direct experience with tools like VictoriaMetrics/Elastic and OpenTelemetry
  • Knowledge of AI/ML concepts, inference workloads, and agent frameworks
  • A solid background in software development (Go, Python) with the ability to prototype and write quality code
  • Experience deploying and running modern databases (relational and NoSQL) in production in cloud native environments (with a preference for Kubernetes)
  • Extensive experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) and promoting self-service (e.g., Backstage)
  • Been able to explain complex tech to anyone and guided technical direction for whole products in a SaaS company
  • Dedicated to diving into tough technical problems and finding pragmatic solutions

Responsibilities

  • Act as a key technical leader for all cloud-related matters
  • Serve as an ambassador between our Internal Platform and its users across Product & Development
  • Guide our technical strategy using your deep knowledge in Kubernetes, cloud architectures, and software development
  • Ensure our platform is a robust, reliable, and secure foundation for future growth
  • Focus on solving complex distributed systems challenges
  • Act as the subject matter expert for our cloud-native platform, adapting industry practices for Kubernetes, public cloud, security, and distributed systems to our particular challenges
  • Guide and support the shift from our old monolithic apps to modern, Kubernetes-based services
  • Help shape the long-term vision and build our scalable, multi-cloud Kubernetes infrastructure
  • Improve how we observe system and application performance, with a focus on our use of OpenTelemetry and the various observability platforms we send our signals to
  • Advice on choosing, scaling and generally managing databases across our stack, running PoCs to expand our internal self-service offering as required
  • Evolve the strategy for our Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), CI/CD, and GitOps practices, researching and supporting self-service patterns (e.g. using Backstage) to empower developers
  • Research and test new technologies to improve developer experience and platform capabilities
  • Collaborate with internal and external teams in company wide projects that require deep cloud/Kubernetes expertise

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building and promoting a "platform-as-a-product" for internal developer customers
  • Experience with cloud financial management (FinOps) and architecting for cost-efficiency
  • Deep knowledge in cloud security, including threat modeling, network security, and identity management
  • Experience designing and developing reusable, scalable IaC (Terraform modules, Crossplane Compositions) for a wide audience
  • A history of contributing to open-source projects in the cloud-native space
