Remote Staff Engineer

Summary

Join our team as a Staff Engineer at Equals, where you will play a critical role in designing, building, and scaling our payments platform. As a Staff Engineer, you will work across the stack, with a focus on backend services in Node.js and frontend components in React, to deliver high-performance, reliable, and secure payment solutions.

Responsibilities

• Proven experience working with payments platforms, transaction processing, or fintech environments
• Strong understanding of API design, microservices architecture, and distributed systems
• Experience in backend development using Node.js, including building RESTful APIs and working with databases
• Knows when to utilise emerging low-code platforms like Retool
• Experience with AWS
• Experience with GitHub Actions
• Knowledge of payment processing standards, security, PCI compliance, and risk management
• Excellent problem-solving skills with a focus on delivering scalable, secure, and efficient solutions
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with experience mentoring and guiding junior engineers
