Staff Software Engineer

Summary

Join Discord's Social Layer of Gaming team and contribute to building tools for game developers to enhance the gaming experience on the platform. You will design and build core features using various technologies, focusing on C++ and Python. Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and game developers to create elegant and scalable code used by millions. Lead projects through their entire lifecycle, from requirement gathering to shipping. Requirements

• Have experience with some parts of our tech stack: C++, Python, Elixir, Rust, or Typescript/React
• Have 4-5 years experience as a software engineer
• Have a sense for product and design
• Take a holistic approach to problem solving

Responsibilities

• Design and build out core features for our audience of game developers
• Use your attention to detail to continually raise the quality bar of the software we write
• Work with the other engineers on your team to write, review, and ship elegant and scalable code
• Be the lead on projects through the whole life cycle: including gathering requirements, mapping out its scope, building, and shipping it
• Collaborate with our game developer partners to better understand their needs in order to improve our tools
• Work with product managers, designers, and product marketers to cut through ambiguity and find the way forward

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with game development
• Experience with Unity and/or Unreal
• Experience with mobile development
