Summary

Join MO, a company dedicated to improving government services through human-centered design, as a Staff Software Engineer. You will be part of a cross-functional team building digital services for federal clients, setting high standards for engineering excellence. The role involves developing end-to-end systems, improving access to government services, and working on all aspects of projects from strategy to support. You will collaborate with various teams, lead technical planning, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to client pitches and proposals. Approximately 10% travel is anticipated. Requirements

  • 5+ years experience as engineering professional; experience leading delivery for one or more digital web products at scale on cloud platforms
  • Ability to prioritize, define, architect, and oversee work across the engineering team to ensure high quality while meeting our deadline goals
  • Strategic thinking about trade-offs and making recommendations about short-term vs. long-term goals
  • Design and implement complex software, scope projects, and lead productive code and design reviews
  • Work with product and design teams to understand user requirements and use cases
  • Experience with privacy, security, and writing software that handles PII
  • Ability to lead and mentor more junior engineers with empathy and support for their skills growth
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Proven experience working across the full development stack, including frontend web applications, backend APIs and databases, cloud infrastructure, DevOps, and pipelines
  • Proficiency with modern JavaScript, React, CSS, HTML, and related libraries/frameworks
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS), particularly with services like Connect, Lambda, QuickSight, RDS, DynamoDB, and AppSync
  • Familiarity with serverless frameworks
  • Strong understanding and experience with SQL and NoSQL document store persistence
  • Expertise in Git/GitHub version control
  • Proven experience building accessible, compliant web applications adhering to WCAG 2.2 AA standards
  • Experience with automated unit, integration, and end-to-end testing, focusing on behavioral tests and achieving high test coverage
  • Ability to implement robust Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and partners to define, design, and ship new systems and features
  • Lead technical roadmap and architecture planning
  • Lead other engineers and set standards for clean, maintainable, and efficient code
  • Build relationships with customer-side engineering stakeholders and Product Owners
  • Conduct design and code reviews to ensure the quality of the codebase
  • Troubleshoot and debug complex software issues
  • Participate in the hiring process (e.g., submitting referrals, conducting interviews, improving hiring practices)
  • Assist with pitches and proposals to prospective clients, showcasing MO’s technical capabilities and solutions
  • Collaborate with business development teams to identify opportunities for new projects and client engagements
  • Develop and present technical components of proposals to potential clients

Preferred Qualifications

  • Valuable experience includes developing generative AI applications using multiple large language models (LLMs), multitenant applications, and modern government authentication systems
  • Experience evaluating identity and access management services (e.g., AWS Cognito, Auth0) and security protocols (OIDC, SAML)
  • Commitment to contributing to the public domain and leveraging open-source technologies
