Requirements

  • Strong development background with 10+ years experience in Java/Kotlin, Python, and/or other environments
  • Solid computer science fundamentals and demonstrable hands-on experience with architectural design and complex systems
  • Experience designing systems that scale as validated through performance and load testing
  • A profound understanding of how to best create modern SaaS-based web applications
  • Comprehensive knowledge of modern cloud infrastructure development and tech stacks (AWS strongly preferred), familiarity with Git for version control, and back-end deployment process best practices
  • Hands-on experience with SQL databases and other persistence models and caching schemes
  • Experience with DataDog and a strong interest in observability is a plus
  • You have led high-level technical projects or have been the primary engineering leader of multi-month engineering projects
  • Skilled at conflict management and resolution; advocating for your ideas strongly while listening and integrating the ideas of others equally strongly
  • Natural collaborator and problem solver who thrives in fast-paced environments
  • Relentlessly curious and are continuously working to learn and build your knowledge
  • You put customers first and are open to help triage on the occasional customer or partner call

Responsibilities

  • Provide direction and guidance for large feature work from the inception stage
  • Assist a product delivery team with refactoring and enforcing core architectural principles while we consolidate and reduce complexity to improve the user experience
  • Focus on our core application, but also be aware of our additional product(s) and their interactions
  • Express thoughtful opinions and know-how on implementing enterprise-grade systems at the code and schema levels as well as distributed systems architecture
  • Champion a holistic engineering approach that accounts for SDLC and CICD best practices in terms of development velocity and risk management
  • Lay out the foundations for new services in Kotlin/Java and Python and ensure their implementation not only to functional requirements, but to performance, scalability, security, and other technical characteristics
  • Recognize, classify, prioritize, and business-justify investments in servicing tech debt
  • Collaborate with our product, design, and development teams in order to fully create and understand the requirements for what is necessary to be produced
  • Lead investigations when necessary to resolve production issues, always putting our customers first
  • Grow yourself and your team’s engineering skills by mentoring other engineers and reviewing code to ensure high code quality and continuous improvement
