Staff Software Engineer

Summary

Join Veracross's Finance product team as a full-time Staff Software Engineer and Technical Lead. You will contribute to building and improving our Student Billing and Accounting product, working primarily with SQL and Ruby on Rails. This role involves technical leadership, mentoring other engineers, and collaborating with product management. Experience with financial systems and accounting concepts is highly valued. Requirements

• Understanding of core accounting standards and concepts, including but not limited to: GAAP, General Ledger, and Accounts Receivable / Accounts Payable
• Experience with accounting applications, such as Quickbooks, Freshbooks, Xero, or Sage
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Excellent technical organization and planning skills
• Ability to perform technical responsibilities remotely in a mostly asynchronous environment
• Ability to be flexible and adaptable
• 8+ years of professional programming experience
• Proven experience in system architecture, ensuring system scalability and performance
• Experience with relational databases
• Experience with source control, especially git
• A service- and team-oriented mindset

Responsibilities

• Own technical architecture discussions and lead technical decisions for the accounting product area
• Develop and lead the team to execute against both short-term and long-term roadmaps
• Provide technical mentorship for team members
• Improve and maintain our Ruby on Rails applications
• Improve and maintain our products through SQL code
• Build new features within our flagship product, Axiom
• Participate with Product Management in the development of new features and platform improvements
• Enable other product areas, such as Admissions and Fundraising, to leverage our accounting platform
• Expand our internal tools to automate and improve workflows
• Assist in documenting Finance team systems and tools
• Integrate Veracross with third-party systems used by private K-12 schools

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with the Ruby language, Rails framework, or similar languages and technologies; experience with modern JavaScript development a plus
