Requirements
- Proven experience in 3D art creation for video games, particularly in MMOs or open-world games
- Strong hard surface modeling skills, including ability to create high-quality hero props with high detail
- Ability to faithfully recreate complex objects from 2D concept art or reference, paying close attention to detail
- Proficiency in industry-standard 3D modeling and texturing software (e.g., Maya, 3ds Max, ZBrush, Substance Painter, Photoshop)
- Strong understanding of lighting, composition, and color theory
- Strong teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
- Ability to provide feedback to outsourcers
- A good understanding of MMO games, storytelling, and world-building
Responsibilities
- Create visually stunning and detailed models of starships from a well-known IP
- Creatively model based on rudimentary concepts or references, showing an understanding of the goals of the design, to final, game-ready models
- Produce game-ready textures and materials for our proprietary material pipeline, emphasizing realism and visual appeal
- Collaborate with technical artists and engineers to optimize assets for in-game performance while maintaining artistic integrity
- Work closely with art directors, designers, and other artists to ensure that starship art aligns with the game's overall vision and IP constraints
- Collaborate with the design team to find new and interesting ways to create ships, combat, and powers
- Provide feedback on art created by other team members, ensuring it meets the established standards
- Maintain comprehensive documentation and asset libraries for starship art assets
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with modeling and UV unwrapping using trim sheet textures
- Knowledge of game development pipelines and the ability to work with various game engines, as well as experience with in-house engines
