Summary

The job involves working as a Substation Engineer/Designer remotely for SELECT Power Systems' Power Division. The ideal candidate should have at least two years of experience in Protection & Control or Physical design engineering, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE). The role requires the development of design packages, collaboration with internal and external teams, and adherence to safety, quality, and client-focused standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE)
  • Engineer-in-Training Certificate or Professional Engineering license preferred
  • Minimum two (2) years Protection & Control or Physical design engineering experience is required
  • Previous engineering consulting firm or utility experience is preferred
  • Construction support experience is a plus
  • Experience with AUTOCAD Electrical, ASPEN, SKM, Microstation, Bluebeam, and 3D modeling delivery are preferred

Responsibilities

  • Developing complete design packages consisting of one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, relay & communications/SCADA panel layouts, AC & DC Schematics / elementaries, wiring diagrams, bill of materials, cable schedules and equipment specifications
  • Collaborating and providing technical direction to clients, peer engineers, designers, drafters, and less experienced team members
  • Performing quality checks / reviews of engineering packages
  • Assisting with scopes, estimates, schedules and proposals as necessary
  • Participating in meetings with clients
  • Performing AC / DC, and voltage drop calculations
  • Using and understanding NEC, NESC, IEEE/ANSI, NEMA and client specific standards
  • Development of substation design drawings which may include: General Arrangements & Layouts, Elevations & Section Details, Below Grade Conduit Plans & Schedules, Lightning Protection Plans/Analysis, Ground Grid Design & Grounding Details, Bill of Materials (BOM), Control Building Layouts & Equipment
  • Develop bid documents and material specifications
  • Review vendor submittals and provide analysis/feedback
  • Efficiently & effectively communicate design requirements and collaborate with other disciplines of the company including structural, civil, survey, land development, etc. on a regular basis
