Summary

Join Ross University School of Medicine's Clinical Academy of Teaching & Learning (cATL) as a Teaching Assistant! Assist senior faculty in supporting medical students during their final two years. Responsibilities include individualized tutoring, academic advising, group presentations, and mentorship. You will coach students in one-on-one and group sessions, contribute to improving board preparation services, and help students achieve their Step 1 exam goals. The ideal candidate is a recent RUSM graduate with strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. This is a full-time, remote position with a competitive salary and benefits package.

Requirements

  • Must be a recent graduate of Ross University School of Medicine
  • Must have an M.D. degree and completed all clinical rotations by April 31, 2025 for all US applicants
  • Must have graduated within twelve months prior to the start date of the position –target start is June 2025
  • Must have first attempt passing scores on all three USMLE examination attempts (Step 1, Step 2 CK, and CS); preferred high performance on both Step 1 and Step 2 CK examinations
  • Satisfactory (or better) grades in all activities undertaken as RUSM student, including performance on NBME qualifying exams
  • Strong teaching/tutoring skills and experience; or evidence of potential
  • Must work well on a team and show flexibility
  • Excellent communication skills in English
  • Desire for self-improvement and openness to feedback for improvement

Responsibilities

  • Assist senior faculty in all areas of board preparation and academic success support provided to students who are in their last two years of their medical school journey
  • Support the delivery of individualized tutoring
  • Schedule regular individual academic advising sessions
  • Present NBME MCQ reviews in large-group tutoring sessions
  • Provide mentorship of clinical students
  • Provide general academic support for the Clinical Academy of Teaching & Learning (cATL) for Step 1, CK and CSA consistently for about 20 to 30 students on a weekly basis
  • Coach students in one-on-one and group tutoring sessions
  • Carry out the academic content provided to students
  • Complete assigned projects for continual improvement on the delivery of board preparation services under the instruction of the Assistant Director – Operations of the Clinical Academy of Teaching & Learning (cATL)
  • Help a group of 20 to 30 students prepare to take their Step 1 exam after their successful completion of the last medical sciences semester and help them achieve their Step 1 goal
  • Assist in the instruction of essential skills for OSCE/standardized patient formative and summative exercises in the RUSM Step 1 preparatory courses
  • Provide at least one-hour weekly tutoring sessions to support Academic Advisor’s recommended study strategy, content review, and test taking skills, as well as monitor the progress and improvement of student toward their Step exam goal
  • Serve as mentors to a cohort of students, by maintaining close communication with each student and providing guidance in all aspects of their performance
  • Conduct simulated Mock CS OSCE sessions as standardized patients
  • Engage in weekly step 1 progress support outreach calls
  • Participate in faculty development courses and activities, such as, the faculty senate
  • Support the delivery of RUSM CSA exam preparation
  • Participate in the assessment of simulated clinical skills using standardized checklists and rubrics
  • Attend training sessions to become competent in tutoring and assessment skills
  • Work independently and collaboratively with a team by developing and cultivating relationships and networks in order to achieve results
  • Create student academic resources with the senior faculty to enhance the student experience, such as, presentations, videos, and electronics resources
  • Assist in the presentation of clinical skills learning objectives in small/large group settings to students
  • Act as a point of contact for students via phone/email – give problem solving assistance to student questions
  • Complete other duties as assigned by Director and Assistant Director

Preferred Qualifications

  • Teaching and/or tutoring experience in a healthcare related field
  • Mentoring or advising experience in academic setting
  • Leadership experience in student co-curricular activities
  • Prior work experience in a team environment and healthcare setting (e.g. paramedic, scribe, simulation tech)
  • Proficiency in computer skills including Microsoft Office (specifically, Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint)
  • Experience with prioritizing while under pressure in an independent work environment
  • Strong academic performance in the RUSM curriculum and USMLE licensing exams preferred
