Summary
Join our team as a Technical Writer to create clear and accurate documentation for complex mechanical and electronic (LED) systems. You will collaborate with engineers and legal teams, translating technical information into patent-ready and compliant documentation. This project-based freelance position requires a Bachelor's degree and 3-5 years of experience in technical writing, preferably in a mechanical or electronics environment. Experience with patent or legal documentation is highly desirable. Compensation is $400-$500 per day, and the position is remote, open to candidates in the USA or Canada. The duration and scope of the project will be determined based on specific needs.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required (preferably in a technology-related field)
- 3–5 years of experience in technical writing or a similar role, preferably in a mechanical or electronics-focused environment
- Demonstrated experience creating technical content for patents or legal documentation is highly desirable
- Excellent written communication skills and the ability to understand and articulate complex systems
- Strong organizational and project management skills
- Familiarity with documentation tools (e.g., MS Office, Adobe Acrobat)
Responsibilities
- Draft, edit, and structure technical documents that describe complex mechanical and electronic (LED) technologies including hardware, systems and procedures in a clear and accurate manner
- Collaborate with legal team and engineers to gather technical information and translate it into documentation that may support patent filings or compliance processes
- Proof and edit technical material written by others (lawyers, engineers, etc.) for clarity, conciseness, grammar, and consistent formatting
- Prepare engineering diagrams, charts, and illustrations to complement written documentation
- Maintain documentation databases and versioning systems where required
- May support occasional software-related documentation tasks
- Organize technical content into structured formats suitable for internal stakeholders, legal teams, or external collaborators
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with software documentation is an asset but not required
- Exposure to LED technologies, embedded systems, or hardware components
- Experience collaborating with R&D teams and IP professionals
Benefits
- Compensation is based on experience and is set between US$400 and US$500 per day
