Summary

Join Version 1 as a Technology Principal and collaborate with major government and financial services clients to solve complex digital challenges. You will leverage your experience in building and deploying enterprise-scale digital services to advise on practical solutions, considering performance, scalability, security, and resilience. Responsibilities include reviewing technical strategies, working with project teams on integration challenges, presenting solutions to clients, and collaborating with diverse teams. Business development activities, such as presenting to potential clients and writing technical proposals, are also involved. You will be part of a central architecture team, working alongside experienced peers and benefiting from continuous learning opportunities. The role offers a variety of tasks and the chance to contribute to building user-centered digital services.

Requirements

  • 10+ years progression from practitioner to accountability - you've a proven modern software background with strategic thinking abilities and a learning mindset, progressing to take responsibility for complex, scaled deliveries with solution architecture experience
  • Large organisation delivery experience - you have ideally delivered solutions for government departments or major financial institutions which may include leading teams of architects or technical specialists
  • Hands-on technical experience - you have built and deployed enterprise-scale digital services using modern approaches (microservices, APIs, cloud platforms like AWS or Azure, data architecture, and system integration)

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with our largest government and financial services clients, working collaboratively to solve their most complex digital challenges, applying critical thinking to break down problems and identify practical solutions - thinking about performance, scalability, security and resilience from the start
  • Review a technical strategy for a major government department
  • Spend time with a project team working through integration challenges on a live service
  • Present a solution approach to a client's senior leadership team
  • Credibly advise on what works in practice, using systems thinking to understand how technical decisions connect across the broader service and business context
  • Design microservices architectures for AWS or Azure
  • Help a bank modernise their data platform while meeting strict security requirements
  • Work with a delivery team to recover a struggling project by identifying risks and adjusting approach
  • Collaborate with diverse teams including user researchers, product managers, software engineers and business stakeholders, taking a stakeholder-focused approach to balance different perspectives and needs while understanding the commercial context
  • Present to potential clients
  • Write technical proposals including sizing and estimation work
  • Help win new work that supports business growth across your accounts
  • Balance priorities across multiple engagements, often working to tight deadlines
  • Work alongside experienced peers who share your passion for solving complex technical challenges
  • Bounce ideas off experienced peers

  • Tackle problems collaboratively
  • Bring your proven experience and apply it to new challenges, while staying current with industry trends
  • Represent Version 1 at conferences and industry events
