Summary

Join the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) as a Remote Patient Observer! In this role, you will remotely monitor patients using audio/visual technology, ensuring their safety and well-being. You will verbally redirect patients from risky behaviors and promptly alert nursing staff when necessary. Maintaining accurate documentation and collaborating with the healthcare team are crucial aspects of this position. Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent (GED)
• Certified Nursing Assistant/Medical Assistant required
• Current American Heart Association CPR certification required
• Basic computer operations skills required
• Ability to utilize universal safety precautions and to act appropriately in emergency situations
• Ability to recognize problems and to identify and implement a course of action required
• Ability to read, write, and speak English in order to follow and give instructions accurately and clearly and able to communicate effectively using a microphone and headset
• The ability to learn a variety of tasks and follow instructions with minimal errors. The ability to ensure the confidentiality and rights of all patients and departmental documents is required. Ability to complete documentation/forms related to observation of patient
• Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and ability to assess data reflective of the patient's requirements relative to his or her population-specific and age specific needs

Responsibilities

• Maintain electronic visual & auditory observation of patients with safety concerns for up to 10 patients (depending on patient acuity)
• Verbally redirect patient over digital 2-way audio device that is in patient room
• Immediately summons the nursing staff if the patient requires
• Participate in hand-off of pertinent information/behavior about assigned patients when arriving on unit and upon completion of shift assignment
• Seek help or advice as soon as possible when patient appears to pose a threat to themselves or others
• Participate in a collaborative identification and reporting of patient safety issues
• Assure patient environment safety. Seek assistance with removal of any potential safety hazard from room and reports findings to nursing staff
• Maintain all required documentation as identified on initiation, during observation, and discontinuation of continuous video monitoring
• Demonstrate sound knowledge base and actions in the care of reporting observations for age specific patient populations to the RN
• Establish and maintain courteous and effective relationships with patients, visitors, co-workers, and other members of the health care team; demonstrate sensitivity and awareness to the needs of patients, visitors and co-workers and respond promptly to verbal and/or written instructions
• Maintain a safe and orderly work environment, thorough cleaning and straightening of area, following specific departmental procedures/instructions, daily
• Perform related and delegated tasks when necessary such as setting up or discharging special equipment, answering the phone and taking and relaying messages
• Attend all mandatory hospital in-services in accordance with any HR and other hospital policies
• Maintain confidentiality of patient information (HIPAA)

Preferred Qualifications

Six months of prior direct, patient care work experience in a health care facility is preferred
