Requirements

  • Active license in the state of CA, RVT
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in the veterinary field with anesthesia experience a must
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written; organizational skills; proactive thinking and a positive attitude are also a must
  • Accuracy in calculating and delivering anesthetic agents, fluids, and CRIs
  • Proficiency in record keeping related to medical procedures including daily treatments administered, patient status, procedures completed, supplies used, and anesthetic records
  • Review and understanding of all medical records pertinent to patient care
  • Comprehensive understanding and experience with anesthetic monitoring is required
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment and a commitment to developing long-term relationships with colleagues, clients, and community is required
  • Maintain a positive outlook and ability to work well in stressful situations
  • The ability to deliver exceptional client service is a priority

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and set up anesthesia equipment and supplies for surgical procedures
  • Calculate and administer anesthetic agents according to established protocols
  • Ensure the availability of necessary monitoring equipment and medications
  • Ability to perform arterial catheterization, epidurals, difficult intubation, and critical case management
  • Perform pre-anesthetic assessments, including physical examinations and review of patient history
  • Monitor vital signs (e.g., heart rate, blood pressure, respiratory rate, temperature) during anesthesia and surgery
  • Respond promptly to any changes in patient status, and report abnormalities to the anesthesia team
  • Assist the department in positioning and preparing the patient for surgery or procedures
  • Administer and adjust anesthesia as needed to maintain an appropriate level of sedation or anesthesia depth
  • Continuously monitor and record patient parameters during surgery or procedures
  • Assist in the recovery process, ensuring patients wake up smoothly from anesthesia
  • Administer post-operative pain management and supportive care as directed by the veterinary team
  • Monitor patients in the post-anesthetic period for any signs of complications or distress
  • Clean, maintain, and sterilize anesthesia equipment and supplies
  • Perform routine checks to ensure proper functioning of monitoring devices
  • Accurately document anesthesia records, including drug dosages, patient parameters, and any incidents during the procedure
  • Maintain organized patient records and ensure compliance with hospital policies
  • Collaborate with other veterinary technicians, veterinarians, and support staff to ensure seamless patient care
  • Provide clear and concise communication regarding patient status and any concerns to the veterinary team
