Summary

The Western PA Political Director builds progressive power across Western Pennsylvania by working with candidates, supporting allied partners, and building local power. They are responsible for identifying strategic opportunities, recruiting and vetting candidates, building an organizing committee, managing political relationships, developing strategic plans, fundraising, and serving as a spokesperson. The ideal candidate has at least 5 years of experience in legislative and community organizing, drafting electoral plans, and cultivating powerful relationships.

Requirements

  • 5 or more years of experience organizing with increasing responsibilities
  • Serious legislative and community organizing experience, crafting campaigns, working on legislation and bringing coalitions together
  • Experience drafting and analyzing electoral plans
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate powerful relationships and build alliances
  • An understanding of campaign database tools (EveryAction, VAN/votivate)
  • Familiarity with the goals and expectations of the Working Families Party

Responsibilities

  • Identification with support from WFP leadership of key strategic opportunities and priority electoral races
  • Candidate recruitment and vetting including mobilizing candidates to support WFP and ally issues
  • Building an organizing and endorsement committee for WFP and aligned elected officials and movement organizations to connect across Western PA
  • Manage WFP’s political relationships to fulfill the organizational goal of identifying, training, and inspiring progressive activists in Western PA to consider running for office each year
  • Organizing: Build the Western PA movement table and cohere a common political and electoral strategy across membership organizations, labor unions etc
  • Develop short, medium and long-term strategic and organizing plans that help grow our membership and build the WFP in Western PA
  • Work in conjunction with WFP regional leaders to identify and recruit a diverse group of strategic leaders from labor and community organizations as well as the broader public
  • Fundraising: Contribute to planning funder meetings and the development of fundraising proposals for Western PA WFP, with a goal of raising $50,000 per year for Western PA WFP programs
  • Media and Communications: Serve as organizational spokesperson for community events and media relations to engage the public in organizational priorities as it relates to Western PA

  • Compensation: The final salary for this role will be determined based on our Pay Scale, which takes into consideration years of experience, geographic location, and final job description. The final salary assumes the employee lives in the Pittsburgh metro area
