Summary
Join Clover's legal team as an Associate General Counsel and Privacy Officer, leading the company-wide privacy program and ensuring compliance with HIPAA and other relevant regulations. You will be the primary legal counsel for health privacy, interoperability, information blocking, and data security. Collaborate with business leaders to develop legal solutions, partner with HR on employment issues, and support corporate compliance efforts. This role involves monitoring legislative and regulatory activities, engaging in public policy advocacy, and handling general legal matters. The ideal candidate will have a J.D., corporate legal experience, healthcare expertise, and strong collaboration skills. This is a remote role with minimal travel.
Requirements
- You have a J.D. from an accredited law school, corporate legal experience, and healthcare expertise, including federal and state privacy laws (HIPAA required; anti-kickback rules, False Claims Act, CMS requirements, and Medicare Advantage knowledge a plus)
- You bring experience in internal investigations, employment law, and partnering with HR on policy, employee relations, and compliance matters
- You excel at collaborating with diverse stakeholders and have strong negotiation, drafting, communication, and problem-solving skills
- You are open to a remote role with minimal travel
Responsibilities
- Lead a strategic, company-wide privacy programโdeveloping policies, processes, and training that protect PHI and ensure compliance with HIPAA and other privacy, cybersecurity, interoperability, and information-blocking laws
- Manage breach assessment and notification processes, and serve as a key legal resource for privacy and data security matters across all departments and new ventures
- Partner with Human Resources on employment law issues, including employee relations, policy development, workplace investigations, and compliance
- Support corporate compliance efforts, internal investigations, and the development of policies, procedures, and governance documents
- Monitor and influence federal and state legislative and administrative activities, engaging in public policy advocacy and building relationships with government officials to advance company goals
- Take on additional legal matters as needed, including research, regulatory filings, and support for strategic initiatives
- Implements and maintains a robust, company-wide privacy program that meets or exceeds HIPAA and other applicable privacy, cybersecurity, and interoperability requirements, with no significant compliance gaps identified in internal or external audits
- Serves as a trusted, responsive legal partner to HR, Compliance, and business leaders, delivering timely, practical guidance that effectively mitigates legal and regulatory risk while enabling strategic objectives
- Proactively monitors and engages in legislative and regulatory developments, influencing outcomes or preparing the organization for changes in laws and regulations that affect operations and strategy
- Manages breach responses, investigations, and other high-risk matters efficiently, resolving issues with minimal business disruption and measurable reduction in legal exposure over time
Preferred Qualifications
You are familiar with the legislative and regulatory process, with government affairs or public policy advocacy experience strongly preferred
