Associate Staff Systems Engineer II

Summary

Join our dynamic and non-hierarchical Digital Product Engineering company as an IBM i Systems Engineer II! You will manage, administer, and maintain IBM i Power systems, ensuring optimal performance and reacting to situations effectively. This role involves researching and deploying new products, managing replication, monitoring systems, and coordinating with various groups. You will utilize performance management tools, research new technologies, and propose design ideas to optimize application performance. The ideal candidate possesses extensive experience in IBM i Power System administration and a solid understanding of networking concepts.

Requirements

• Have Skills: mimix, IBM i Power systems
• Have 5 or more years as administrator, or experience administering enterprise-level IBM i Power systems
• Have a solid understanding of TCP/IP, switching, and routing concepts
• Be able to handle multiple projects and prioritize tasks
• Be able to react quickly and appropriately to high pressure / high impact situations and determine the best solution
• Be able to learn new technologies quickly
• Be able to take the lead, as appropriate
• Be able to maintain good customer support

Responsibilities

• Administer and maintain IBM i Power systems, including DR systems
• Research and deploy new products (internally & externally developed)
• Manage replication to data warehouse systems using Mimix
• Monitor enterprise-level Power systems to maintain performance levels within set constraints and react appropriately to situations
• Manage i OS jobs and system messages
• Control job environment through adjustment of system resources and subsystems - Perform backup and restore operations
• Manage system and user security
• Coordinate system activities with other groups, such as Engineering, networking, Open systems, customer service, and product, to deliver optimum solutions for the business
• Keep service levels high
• Identify effects of new product offerings on infrastructure and propose design ideas
• Utilize performance management tools for IBM i and project future trending analysis in order to recommend proper upgrade specifications
• Research latest Power technology developments in order to design, spec, and implement the latest and best available technologies
