Summary
Join T-Rex Solutions as an AWS Database Engineer to support the US Department of the Treasury's TCloud enterprise cloud development. This role focuses on managing and optimizing relational and open-source databases, leveraging AWS managed databases (RDS, Aurora, Redshift). You will be responsible for database performance, availability, security, and data warehousing. The ideal candidate possesses extensive experience in database administration, migration to AWS, and AWS CloudWatch proficiency. A strong background in database failover, recovery, and security is crucial. This position requires a deep understanding of database design, management, and best practices.
Requirements
- Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance
- Bachelorβs degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and at least 4 years' experience
- Proven experience as a DBA with expertise in Oracle and Postgres databases
- Extensive experience with AWS database services, including Aurora, RDS, and Redshift
- Familiarity with AWS infrastructure and services like EC2, VPC, S3, IAM, and Lambda
- Experience with automation tools and scripting languages such as Python, Shell, or AWS Lambda to automate database tasks
- Experience with AWS CloudWatch, CloudTrail, and other monitoring tools to ensure high availability and performance
- Solid experience in database failover, recovery procedures, and disaster recovery planning
- Comprehensive understanding of modern database design, database management, and best practices
- Strong understanding of the software development and release management processes
- Strong verbal, written, interpersonal, troubleshooting, and analytical skills
- Demonstrated experience with migrating on-premises databases to AWS
- Proficient in SQL, database design, and data modeling. Familiarity with AWS CLI, SDKs, and CloudWatch
Responsibilities
- Administer, maintain, and implement policies and procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of databases
- Collaborate with the team to design highly available, scalable, and secure database architectures
- Monitor database performance, implement changes and apply new patches and versions when required to ensure optimal performance
- Design and execute database backup and recovery strategies, including failover planning and testing
- Lead migration projects from on-premises databases to AWS, including planning, execution, and validation of database migrations and upgrades
- Ensure database security measures are in place, including access controls and audit logging. Comply with all applicable data privacy laws and regulations
- Manage and optimize AWS Redshift instances and other data warehousing solutions for scalable and efficient data storage and analysis
- Utilize AWS CloudWatch and other monitoring tools to ensure database health, performance, and to automate scaling and notifications
- Provide high-level support for complex database issues, including troubleshooting and resolving database integrity issues, performance issues, blocking and deadlocking issues, replication issues, log shipping issues, etc
- Set up and configure automated monitoring and alerting for database health, performance, and uptime using AWS CloudWatch, AWS CloudTrail, and other tools
- Maintain clear documentation for database configurations, processes, procedures, and troubleshooting guides
Preferred Qualifications
- AWS or relevant database certifications (e.g., Oracle Certified Professional, PostgreSQL Professional)
- Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation of database tasks
- Deep familiarity with database monitoring tools, especially AWS CloudWatch, for performance monitoring and alerting
- Active Treasury clearance preferred
