Summary

Join Ace & Tate, a certified B Corp, as their new Backend Engineer (Ruby) and make a real impact in the eyewear industry. You will work on backend APIs, internal tools, and web and retail client applications, collaborating with engineers and designers to enhance the e-commerce and retail experience. The role involves participating in the full web development lifecycle, from ideation to deployment, and working with technologies like Ruby on Rails (Solidus), AWS, Typescript, React, and NextJS. This position offers a flexible hybrid work environment with remote work possibilities for candidates located outside Amsterdam. The company values continuous learning and offers opportunities for professional growth. The role is available immediately for 32 to 40 hours per week.

Requirements

  • Write pragmatic code that gets the job done, is easy to read, maintainable and performant
  • Have 5+ years of experience as a Software Engineer, with at least 3+ years with Ruby on Rails and backend systems
  • Are comfortable working with critical systems, monitoring and troubleshooting production issues, preferably in a large RoR codebase
  • Have proven ability to collaborate effectively in a hybrid, cross-functional team environment
  • Have excellent communication skills, enabling you to articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical team members
  • Have a passion for staying up-to-date with the latest technologies and industry trends

Responsibilities

  • Participating in the full web development lifecycle, from ideation to deployment
  • Working on the evolution of our Solidus ecommerce environment
  • Developing and maintaining our e-commerce APIs and infrastructure
  • Actively contributing to our web/store client applications and internal tools
  • Designing, building, and maintaining efficient, reusable, and reliable Ruby code and libraries and services
  • Working on integrations with other Ace & Tate systems as well as third party integrations
  • Engaging in continuous testing, bug fixing, automation and code reviews to maintain high-quality standards
  • Integrating data storage solutions like PostgreSQL,Redis, S3 etc

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with modern Javascript (Typescript) and have worked with popular Frontend Frameworks
  • Experience with AWS, GCP or other cloud platforms
  • Experience with Cloudflare or other CDNs to optimise website performance
  • Experience with Ruby e-commerce frameworks like Solidus and Spree is a big plus
  • Knowledge of eCommerce concepts, such as cart management, payment gateways, and product catalogues
