Backend Engineer

Summary

Join Ascertain, a healthcare technology company, as a Backend Software Engineer to build scalable and robust infrastructure and backend services for their AI platform. You will define best practices for infrastructure, security, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud hosting strategy. As an early engineering hire, you will significantly shape the technical architecture and engineering culture. Collaborate with product and engineering teams to ensure platform security, performance, reliability, and scalability. While primarily focused on backend and infrastructure, you will have the opportunity to work across the stack. Requirements

• 4+ years of experience in back-end development using Python and FastAPI
• Experience in full stack development using Python, FastAPI, and TypeScript
• Familiarity with containerization (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD workflows
• Experience with infrastructure provisioning using Terraform and Docker

Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable back-end services using Python and FastAPI
• Support infrastructure management using Kubernetes, Docker, and Terraform
• Work closely with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define technical requirements and translate them into robust software solutions
• Participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback and ensuring high-quality code standards
• Contribute to improving software development processes and best practices

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL) and other stores (Redis) a plus
• You have a security-minded approach to software design, with experience in regulated environments a plus
• Experience in ambiguous startup environments, proactively take ownership, and communicate clearly across teams
• Excitement (not just willingness!) to dive into new technologies, learn quickly, and step beyond your comfort zone in a rapidly evolving environment
