Backend Engineer

Join CoinTracker's close-knit, early-stage distributed team and play a critical role as a Staff Backend Engineer. You will shape the backend architecture, scale systems, and drive high-impact engineering and product initiatives. Collaborate cross-functionally, mentor engineers, and build a world-class engineering team. Architect and scale backend systems to support millions of users and transactions. Lead critical technical projects, ensuring scalability, performance, and reliability. Design and optimize complex data processing pipelines, distributed systems, and APIs. Continuously improve system performance, observability, and maintainability. This role requires strong CS fundamentals, backend technologies expertise, and a track record of technical leadership.

Requirements

• 8+ years of backend engineering experience ideally in data engineering domains
• Strong CS fundamentals, including algorithms, data structures, system design, and performance optimization
• Deep knowledge of backend technologies, including databases, orchestrators, messaging systems, data pipelines, and more
• Track record of technical leadership, leading complex projects, mentoring engineers, and setting engineering standards
• Experience with large-scale data ingestion and processing systems
• Has built/ owned ETL pipelines or data ingestion flows (eg: with Kafka, Spark etc)
• Understands data modeling and is comfortable with large data sets, thinks about cost/performance tradeoffs
• Drawn to an early-stage, high-growth startup environment with less stability and more ambiguity

Responsibilities

• Architect and scale backend systems to support millions of users and transactions
• Lead and drive critical technical projects, ensuring long-term scalability, performance, and reliability
• Design and optimize complex data processing pipelines, distributed systems, and APIs
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Design, and other teams to align technical execution with business objectives
• Mentor and guide engineers, fostering technical excellence and best practices across the team
• Continuously improve system performance, observability, and maintainability

Preferred Qualifications

• Ideally 2+ years experience in data intensive systems and exposure to crypto strongly preferred
• Experience in crypto or financial systems
