Join Sweed, a product-driven software startup, as a fully remote Backend Engineer (Java) and help us reimagine cannabis retail operations. We offer an all-in-one platform combining POS, eCommerce, Marketing, Analytics, and Inventory Management. You will design and implement new JVM-based services, develop and maintain gRPC APIs, define migration strategies for service extraction, and ensure backward compatibility. We are looking for strong Java expertise, experience with modern Java frameworks, database mastery, and cloud platform knowledge. Requirements
- Strong Java expertise (JDK 17+/21, concurrency, performance tuning)
- Modern Java frameworks (Spring Boot, Quarkus, or Micronaut)
- Database mastery (PostgreSQL, MySQL or MSSQL —schema design, optimization)
- API & protocols (REST, gRPC, WebSockets)
- Cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP – hands-on with managed services)
- Testing mindset (JUnit, Testcontainers, integration/load testing)
Responsibilities
- Design and implement new JVM-based services, such as billing and marketing integrations
- Develop and maintain gRPC APIs, applying proper versioning strategies to ensure long-term scalability
- Define and execute migration strategies for gradual service extraction (e.g., accounts, catalog), minimizing risk and downtime
- Ensure backward compatibility throughout the decomposition process to support legacy consumers
- Write comprehensive unit and integration tests to ensure the code works as intended and maintains reliability over time
