Remote Backend Engineer

Summary

The job is for a Backend Engineer at Zowie, a fast-growing company offering remote work and flexible hours. The role involves joining one of the Product Engineering teams to work on over 100 microservices coded in Scala. The ideal candidate has excellent coding skills, 2+ years of experience with Scala or other JVM languages, strong communication skills, intermediate system design skills, product acumen, and working proficiency in English and Polish.

Requirements

• Excellent coding skills and passion for growing expertise
• 2+ years of experience with Scala or other JVM languages
• Excellent knowledge of SQL and relational databases
• Strong communication skills
• Intermediate system design skills
• Product acumen, ownership, and focus on value delivered for the customers
• Working proficiency in English and Polish (both spoken and written)

Responsibilities

Play a crucial role as the 7th-10th backend engineer, joining one of the quickly expanding Product Engineering teams

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with NoSql databases
• Experience with Kafka or other message brokers
• Experience with Akka framework
• Experience with functional programming libraries like Cats, Fs2, ZIO, Http4s, etc
• Experience with GraphQL
• Experience with Docker Swarm / Kubernetes
