Backend Engineer, Quality and Merchandising

Summary

Join Airbnb's backend engineering team and build world-class merchandising systems that power data-driven features and boost the booking funnel. As a key individual contributor, you will drive team directions and partner with key teams across the company. This role offers the unique opportunity to drive multiple years of technical vision and architect a merchandising system from scratch, solving ambiguous problems and leading a team of engineers. You will provide critical input, influence technical direction, collaborate with stakeholders, design and implement backend services, and mentor junior engineers. This is a US-remote eligible position with occasional office work or offsites.

Requirements

• 9+ years of industry experience as backend engineer with a BS, MS or PhD in a relevant field
• Experience in building and scaling high-quality and high-traffic products (or systems)
• Ability to evaluate technical approaches and design product solutions to solve real-world problems
• Ability to drive alignment, manage projects and effectively collaborate with stakeholders
• Mentorship to junior developers

Responsibilities

• Provide critical input and be able to influence technical direction
• Influence and collaborate with stakeholders to adopt team goals and roadmaps
• Work with cross functional partners (Product Managers, MLEs, DS, Analytics etc) to design and deliver high-quality systems
• Design and implement backend service to drive organic bookings and improve user experience
• Lead efforts to architect, prototype, build and launch solutions for host or listing success
• Mentor engineers on day to day basis to ensure quality and directions, both within and outside of the team

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in merchandising domains is a plus
