Summary
Join CALSTART as our Backend Web Developer and contribute to our mission of transportation decarbonization. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining server-side logic, database management, and application performance, collaborating with front-end developers and other stakeholders. This role requires designing, developing, and maintaining back-end components and services with clean, scalable, and efficient code. You will also collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate user-facing elements with server-side logic. Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience) and 2-3 years' experience as a Backend Developer or similar role
- Proficiency in server-side programming languages such as Python, Java, Ruby, or Node.js and experience with database management systems (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB)
- Experience with agile development methodologies and an understanding of security protocols and data protection measures
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain backend components and services for multiple websites
- Collaborate with front end developers to integrate user facing elements with server-side logic
- Collaborate with Communication Systems Manager on strategic approaches and prioritization of website requests
- Implement and maintain database systems, ensuring data integrity and security
- Write clean, scalable, and efficient code, following best practices and standards, including the latest ADA requirements
- Troubleshoot and debug applications to optimize performance and reliability
- Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members
- Stay updated with emerging technologies and industry trends
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with PHP and JavaScript (WordPress website integrations) RESTful APIs, web services, and knowledge of cloud services (e.g., AWS, Azure) and containerization (e.g., Docker)
