Compliance Engineer

Summary

Join Bastion as our first Compliance Engineer and build and maintain critical compliance tooling and infrastructure. This role blends engineering and compliance, collaborating with various teams to implement our compliance technology strategy, focusing on cross-border payments and institutional-grade automation. You will architect and maintain systems for financial exam reporting integrating with blockchain technology, collaborate on solutions aligning with best practices, and integrate with blockchain technologies. Staying updated on backend and blockchain development trends is crucial, as is establishing a scalable architecture. Ideal candidates are based in New York or open to traveling to NYC quarterly.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional engineering experience, startup experience a plus
• Strong coding abilities in core backend technologies, including but not limited to relevant languages (Typescript, Go) and database technologies (Snowflake, Postgres)
• Proven experience building critical compliance tooling in a fast-paced environment, ideally in the blockchain or fintech space
• Customer-centric mindset, with a demonstrated ability to turn high-level product requirements into elegant, scalable, and robust technical solutions
• Experience working with complex, cross-functional teams including product, legal, risk, and operations to drive compliance initiatives from concept to production
• Deep understanding of regulatory frameworks (AML, KYC, GDPR) and how they impact product development and operational workflows
• Track record of delivering high-impact solutions in a dynamic, growth-stage startup environment where adaptability and speed are critical
