Copywriter and Translator

Summary
Join our team as a Freelance French Copywriter and Translator for a new venture launching in Wallonia, Belgium! You will adapt marketing and internal communications for the Wallonian market, working with Marketing, Product, UX, and Customer Care teams. Your responsibilities include adapting marketing messages, providing UX translations, and ensuring content relevance. You'll work from our Berlin or Amsterdam office (preferred) or remotely within the CET timezone. The contract is for four to five months, starting in March 2025, with potential for extension. Flexibility in working days is required, with a higher number of days needed initially. We value diverse experiences and encourage applications even if you don't meet all requirements.
Requirements
- BS/MS from a top-tier university in communications, translation, marketing, or another related field of study
- Excellent and proven copywriting skills in French (Wallonian-French is a plus)
- Excellent and proven translation skills from English to French (Wallonian-French is a plus)
- Strong spoken and written proficiency in English
- Minimum 3 years experience in French (Wallonian-French is a plus) copywriting and/or translation, ideally in the areas of food or technology
- Ability to conceptualize content in terms of marketing strategy and positioning
- Ability to deal with a large variety of stakeholders
- Ability to deal with cross-functional copy projects, tasks, and assignments
- Ability to achieve goals while managing scope, deadlines, quality, and risk
- Ability to grasp a brandβs specific tone of voice, product, and consumer base quickly
Responsibilities
- Interpret the global brand and tone of voice of our venture into performance-based messaging for the Wallonia (Belgium) market to reach relevant target groups and trigger conversion
- Translate, adapt, and localize a wide variety of consumer-facing and internal content from English to French
- Proofread French content for spelling, grammar, and logic consistency
- Work closely with design teams to ensure copy and visual content work together effectively
- Structure messaging for specific topics (e.g. brand messages, benefit messages, etc.) to apply throughout all marketing and product channels
- Support local and global teams in rollouts of communication projects
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in writing or translating copy in some of the following areas: UX, advertising, marketing, culinary, consumer care
- Familiarity with French (Wallonian-French is a plus) culture and consumer behavior, especially related to food, technology, and commerce
- Work from our Berlin or Amsterdam office (preferred)
- Remote work within one hour of the Central European Time Zone
