Requirements

  • You have 3+ years experience in database administration or in a similar role
  • Experienced in database backup, disaster recovery planning, advanced performance optimization and data security
  • Knowledge of database management tools
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to provide quick solutions to issues
  • Outstanding communication and collaboration skills to work in a cross team environment
  • Knowledge/Experience working with AWS RDS (Postgres and MySQL) and Aurora, also AWS NoSQL Databases
  • Experience with modern Data Platforms, Data Lake and ETL
  • Knowledge of IT security best practices
  • Ability to use a scripting language (like Python) with AWS CLI or Lambda to automate database administration tasks within AWS
  • Proficiency with database monitoring and alerting tools (e.g., CloudWatch, Datadog, Prometheus)
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform or CloudFormation to manage and provision database resources

Responsibilities

  • Setting up and maintaining the DB environment, including new DB deployments, existing DB upgrades and routine maintenance in a low-downtime methodology
  • Rightsizing and managing the DB infrastructure for cost optimization
  • Monitoring performance, suggesting improvements, evaluating changes to data consumers
  • Collaborate with engineering teams on database schema design and architectural decisions for new features and services
  • Act as a subject matter expert and provide guidance to software engineers on best practices for database interaction and performance
  • Design and implement automation scripts and tools to streamline routine DBA tasks, deployments, and maintenance
  • Recommend database management best practices
  • Author and execute disaster recovery plans and procedures to ensure database availability during system outages or dysfunction
  • Analyze internal database setup (schema/table/etc) and suggest improvements, and implement suggested changes
  • Planning for future growth, high availability, and performance

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with or understanding of graph and vector databases is a plus
