Summary

A remote Digital Archivist is needed to improve the discoverability of archival materials pertaining to women's history by evaluating datasets, recommending authority identifiers, creating new identifiers, performing quality control of metadata records, and collaborating with museum staff. Requirements

  • Proficiency in using digital asset management software and tools to create, edit, and correct authority metadata, especially EMu, ArchivesSpace, Horizon, and The Museum System (TMS)
  • Experience creating and updating authority records and working with major authority utilities such as Library of Congress Name Authority File (LCNAF), Virtual International Authority File (VIAF), Union List of Artist Names (ULAN), Social Networks and Archival Context (SNAC)
  • Knowledge and experience with creating and manipulating datasets in CSV, JSON and XML formats

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate datasets and digital collections and recommend authority identifiers to enhance discoverability of women's history
  • Prepare recommendations of new authorities for individual creators
  • Use Wikidata and other sources for controlled authorities to select identifiers
  • Create at least 15 new identifiers each week that pertain to women's history
  • Perform quality control of metadata records
  • Attend meetings with museum custodial units to discuss project status and progress

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelors or Masters degree in library and information science, museum studies, archival management, or related field
