Summary

Join SMX as the Director of Business Development, leading and growing large-scale technology transformation programs for Defense, Space, and Intelligence customers. This highly visible role involves developing business strategy, driving growth, and managing the full scope of business practices, including market alignment, opportunity pipeline development, and proposal support. You will leverage a deep understanding of customer needs in areas like AI, C5ISR, and Cloud. This remote position requires occasional office visits and offers a unique opportunity to build and grow a focused business. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the Federal IT market and a proven track record of success in securing large contracts.

Requirements

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 8 years of related experience in the Federal IT market
  • Have extensive experience (minimum 4 years) supporting solutions for the DoD or Space/IC
  • Possess working knowledge of missions, cultures, organizational components, leadership, major programs, challenges, and buying trends
  • Have a track record of successfully supporting the capture and winning >$25M multi-year new business RFPs
  • Have established relationships with Defense markets, clients, stakeholders, and influencers, with demonstrated ability to develop and foster new relationships
  • Have experience interacting with and briefing senior government and industry acquisition officials
  • Understand the full business development lifecycle and have been successful in various customer domains within the federal markets
  • Be a proactive, organized, aggressive, and highly-skilled professional
  • Have experience contributing to proposals and the RFI, RFQ, or RFP process
  • Possess in-depth knowledge of the competitive landscape and existing contracts within the Defense Market Place
  • Have strong communication and presentation skills, while maintaining a positive attitude and a strong drive for results
  • Be able to collaborate and work proactively across SMX to achieve broader company growth objectives while maintaining connectivity to the program/contract executing managers

Responsibilities

  • Perform market analysis
  • Develop strategic business plans
  • Develop capture strategy/solution development
  • Engage with customers
  • Support proposal responses
  • Oversee customer contact and positioning
  • Manage an opportunity pipeline, forecasting, and capture management
  • Handle teaming interactions
  • Coordinate with other internal business development, program management, solution architecture, and growth resources
  • Be a conduit and liaison to the Global Defense Business Unit and Space & Intel Business Unit, and Technical Centers of Excellence
  • Support company initiatives

Preferred Qualifications

  • Possess a security clearance
  • Have additional knowledge and experience with adjacent capabilities in the areas of Enterprise IT; Cyber Operations, C5ISR, ITSM and Managed Services; Data Center, Cloud and Cloud Migration; Data Transport and Systems Integration; Application Development and Modernization; Big Data and Data Analytics
  • Have additional knowledge and experience in Government Acquisition Practices and Procedures
