Join Donorbox, a leading fundraising platform, as an experienced engineering leader to scale our teams using Ruby on Rails, SQL, JavaScript, and CSS. Reporting to the Chief Architect, you will drive execution, team growth, and operational excellence within our fully distributed, international team. Lead and mentor 5+ engineering managers across various domains, maintain high agency within a 40+ person engineering department, and oversee performance evaluations. Refine processes, monitor KPIs, address technical debt, and audit the codebase. You will also manage Support Engineering leaders, help modernize our QA department, and represent engineering in leadership meetings. This role requires 10+ years in software engineering with 5+ years managing managers and expertise in process optimization and code quality. The position is fully remote, based in the US or Canada, with a competitive salary and benefits package.
Requirements
- 10+ years in software engineering, with 5+ years managing managers, including prior Engineering Manager experience
- 7+ years of experience with Ruby on Rails, JavaScript, SQL, and CSS; passion for Omakase Rails, Hotwire, PostgreSQL, and vanilla JS
- Proven success scaling remote, international teams in fintech & SaaS environments
- Expertise in process optimization, metrics, bug/incident management, and code quality
- Strong leadership with excellent communication, flexibility, and detail-orientation
- Strong, flexible, and detail-oriented leadership with excellent communication skills
- Thrives in fast-paced, remote settings with a bias for action and resilience
- Bachelorβs in Computer Science or equivalent
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor 5+ engineering managers across various domains (fundraising, analytics & reporting, CRM, Org Experience, in-person payments)
- Maintain a high degree of agency within an engineering department of 40+ people, ensuring productivity, happiness, and the ability for each developer to launch full features by themselves
- Oversee performance evaluations to build a world-class team aligned with merit, effort, and intelligence
- Refine processes for bug triage, incident reporting, and training
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to launch speed and quality
- Address timelines and technical debt effectively
- Audit codebase for quality, collaborate weekly with the Chief Architect on standards, and empower managers to enforce best practices
- Run efficient meetings, forecast timelines, and tackle launch challenges with action-oriented solutions
- Manage Support Engineering leaders
- Help modernize our QA department
- Represent engineering in Leadership meetings with the Exec Team
