Summary
Join Recursion Pharmaceuticals as their Director of Tax, a critical role in their mission to improve lives through AI and large datasets. This one-year contract position (with potential extension) requires managing all aspects of the company's tax function, ensuring compliance, and developing tax strategies. You will lead tax planning, compliance with ASC 740 and SEC filings, and manage tax audits. The role demands expertise in US GAAP, tax law, and international tax matters. Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
- 10+ years of progressive multinational tax experience, with at least 5 years in a managerial or director-level role
- Deep expertise in US GAAP and ASC 740 tax accounting
- Strong working knowledge of federal and state corporate income tax law, particularly as it applies to R&D activities and intellectual property
- Proven ability to manage the complexities of a multi-state tax footprint and international tax matters (e.g., related to foreign subsidiaries in the UK and Canada)
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex tax issues into clear, actionable business insights
Responsibilities
- Drive and execute tax strategies that align with Recursion's long-term business objectives and technology-driven drug discovery model
- Establish, implement, and maintain a global transfer pricing strategy for intercompany transactions across our US, Canada, and UK operations
- Advise senior leadership on the tax implications of key business decisions
- Lead the identification, calculation, and defense of valuable tax incentives specific to a tech-enabled biotech, such as federal R&D tax credits
- Proactively monitor and analyze changes in tax law, particularly those affecting the pharmaceutical and technology sectors, and communicate their impact on the company
- Collaborate with our 3rd party tax provider to accurately and timely prepare the filings of all federal, state, and local income tax returns, estimated payments, and extensions
- Collaborate with our 3rd party tax provider on the quarterly and annual income tax provision process in accordance with ASC 740. This includes calculating current and deferred taxes, managing deferred tax assets and valuation allowances, and documenting uncertain tax positions (FIN 48/ASC 740-10)
- Ensure all tax-related disclosures in SEC filings (10-Q, 10-K) are prepared accurately and in compliance with U.S. GAAP
- Collaborate with external auditors and advisors to ensure a smooth and efficient tax reporting and compliance process
- Manage all federal, state, and local tax audits, inquiries, and examinations
- Maintain robust internal controls over tax processes, ensuring compliance with SOX 404(b) requirements
- Oversee the management of non-income taxes, including sales and use tax, property tax, and other ad hoc filings
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Taxation and/or a CPA certification is strongly preferred
- Experience in a publicly traded pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or technology company is highly desirable
