Join the Chemistry Industry Association of Canada (CIAC) as a key leader in public affairs and government relations. This role involves developing and implementing government relations strategies, cultivating relationships with government officials, and advocating for favorable policies. You will monitor legislative and policy developments, align government relations with corporate communications, and respond to government inquiries. Collaboration with the policy team, regional directors, and consultants is crucial. The position requires experience in government advocacy, public relations, and digital media, along with strong strategic thinking and leadership skills. Based in Ottawa, this role requires fluency in English and offers opportunities to shape the association's interactions with government and stakeholders.
Requirements
- Experience in use of digital media to enhance advocacy
- Experience in government advocacy/ lobbying, including developing policy positions, drafting submissions and letters
- Management experience
- Experience in public relations and crisis communications
- Knowledge of international trade, manufacturing, environment and/or economic issues
- 5-8 years experience in public affairs, including work in a federal political office
- Understanding of the federal government legislative, regulatory and public process
- Solid grasp of how political decisions and elected officials influence Canadian public policy
- Ability to think strategically and develop innovative solutions to reputation management and public relations challenges
- Demonstrated ability in leading and working with cross-functional teams
- Based in Ottawa and ability to travel
- Fluency in English is essential
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement government relations strategies aligned with the association’s priorities
- Cultivate relationships and engage with government officials, policymakers, and regulators to advocate for favourable policies
- Monitor and analyze public opinion, legislative, policy and regulatory developments that may impact the industry’s operations or public image
- Align government relations efforts with corporate communications to shape public perception. Support with comprehensive communications and digital strategy
- Working closely with the policy team, respond to government inquiries and participate in public consultations on key issues
- Develop messaging strategies government to articulate the organization's position on policy matters
- Work closely with Regional Directors on position and message alignment and government engagement
- Organize Ottawa-based government meetings, events, receptions and Hill Days and prepare leadership for meetings with policymakers by providing briefing materials and talking points
- Work in close collaboration with the CIAC consultants and oversee work of Communications Manager
- Build, develop and nurture meaningful relationships with members, partners and stakeholders and staff
