Director, Software Engineering

Summary

Join Samsara, a leader in the Connected Operations™ Cloud, as an Engineering Director to lead our growing Fleet Safety team in the UK. This remote position offers the opportunity to impact global industries by building scalable software solutions using real-time computer vision and sensor data. You will lead and mentor a team of engineering managers and staff/senior engineers, driving the vision and roadmap for the team. The ideal candidate possesses extensive software engineering and management experience, a customer-focused mindset, and a passion for building high-performing teams. Requirements

• 10+ years of industry experience in software engineering/development
• 7+ years of engineering management experience
• Experience managing managers and teams of 30+ engineers
• A track record of building and leading high-performing software teams within a rapidly growing organisation
• Has led top-tier engineering teams within mid-sized technology companies or highly successful startups
• A customer-focused mindset and strong product sense
• Willingness to dive deep and solve challenging technical problems
• Experience with best practices around testing, monitoring, and SLAs to ensure high product quality in large-scale distributed web services

Responsibilities

• Drive the vision, roadmap and priorities for the team
• Continue to scale Samsara’s engineering team in EMEA
• Ensure high technical standards through both processes and the culture you instill
• Mentor and grow engineering managers and staff/senior engineers
• Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices
• Hire, develop, and lead an inclusive, engaged, high-performing team

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in SaaS software development roles
• Experience leading teams that span multiple geographies
• BS in Computer Science or Engineering
